Everyday Operation

This page covers the routine tasks an operator performs on a Vū system every day. It assumes your system is installed and your account is set up — if not, start with the New Customer Training Guide →.

Starting Up

  1. Power on the display (LED wall, TV, or monitor).
  2. Power on the Vū Media Server PC if it isn't already on. The Vū Media Server software starts automatically.
  3. Wait for the Splash Screen to appear on the display. It shows the QR code, the system ID, the date and time, and the software version.
tip

You don't need to power the system off and on every day. Putting displays to sleep at the end of the day is the recommended approach (see Ending the Day), and a schedule can wake them automatically each morning (see Automating Opening and Closing).

Connecting to a Display

On your phone, tablet, or computer, open Vū Studio at https://one.vu.studio and log in. Then connect using one of these methods:

MethodHow
QR code (fastest)Scan the QR code on the display with your phone's camera and tap the link
By ID or nameClick the connection indicator (circle icon in the top bar), type the player's name or the ID shown under the QR code, and select it
From the Display DashboardOpen https://one.vu.studio/dashboard — click the Vū Studio icon to go Home → Display Dashboard — and click the player

The connection indicator tells you where you stand:

IndicatorMeaning
RedNot connected
Flashing yellowConnecting
Green with the player nameConnected — your account name appears in the bottom-right corner of the display

If the player is in Session Mode, an admin must approve you before you can send content. See Demo & Session Mode →.

Each browser tab controls one player at a time. To control several displays together, use a player group (see Working with Several Displays).

See Connecting a Player → for details.

To clear the display, click Stop. The display returns to the Splash Screen.

Adjusting What's Playing

  • Playback controls — Pause / Resume, Stop, Volume, Brightness, and Loop appear in the right panel while content plays. See Your First Playback →.
  • Device Settings — click the sliders icon (top right) for Sound, Image, Lighting, and Music controls for the connected player.
  • Side remote — click the arrow tab on the right edge to open the remote. The Lighting and Macros tabs appear when your system has them configured. See Lighting → and Macros →.

Saving a Look for Later

When you have the display set up the way you like it, save it as a scene: open Save Scene, name it, choose a folder, and click Save. Next time, one click on the scene tile restores it. See Scenes →.

Working with Several Displays

The Display Dashboard (https://one.vu.studio/dashboard) is the control room for systems with more than one player:

  • See every player — each player node shows a dot: green = online, red = offline, blue = asleep.
  • Control a group — click a player group to connect to all of its players at once. Content you cast goes to every player in the group.
  • Cast to All — sends the current content to every connected player in one step. See Cast to All →.
  • Sleep All / Wake Up All — put every display to sleep or wake them together. See Sleep All and Wake All →.
  • Clear All Displays — stop content on every display at once.

See Displays Overview → and Player Groups →.

Managing Who's Connected (Session Mode)

When a player is in Session Mode, admins approve and remove users from the Sessions page: https://one.vu.studio/wall-admin/sessions — click the Vū Studio icon to go Home → Sessions in the left sidebar.

ControlWhat it does
Allow Access (checkbox)Lets that user send commands to the display. Clear it to block commands while keeping them connected
Kick User (trash icon)Disconnects one user
Kick All UsersDisconnects everyone who has not been allowed. Allowed users stay connected
Refresh ListReloads the list of connected users

See Session Mode →.

Ending the Day

  1. Stop any content that's playing, or use Clear All Displays on the Display Dashboard.
  2. Put the displays to sleep — click the connection indicator and choose Sleep, or use Sleep All on the Display Dashboard.
  3. On shared or kiosk devices, log out of Vū Studio from the profile menu (your avatar, top right) → Log Out.

Sleeping, rather than powering off, is the recommended way to shut down at the end of the day. It keeps the media server online so it can be woken remotely or by a schedule.

Automating Opening and Closing

Instead of waking and sleeping displays by hand, create two repeating schedule items:

  1. Open Scheduled Tasks: https://one.vu.studio/schedule — click the Vū Studio icon to go Home → search Scheduled Tasks.
  2. Click New Schedule.
  3. Set Action to Wake, choose the target displays (By Group or Individual), set the Start Time to your opening time, and set Repeat to Daily or Weekly.
  4. Click Schedule Task.
  5. Repeat with Action set to Sleep at your closing time.

You can also schedule content with the Play action — for example, a welcome loop that starts each morning. Players must be online for scheduled actions to run. See Scheduling →.

When Something Goes Wrong

Work through these steps in order.

Contacting Support

  2. Note your Wall ID — shown on the Splash Screen below the QR code.
  3. Contact Vū Support with the Wall ID, what you were doing, what you expected, what happened, and when:
