Operator Menu
The Operator Menu is an advanced interface built into the Vū Media Server software that runs directly on the Windows media server. It gives you access to system-level settings and diagnostic tools that aren't available from the Vū Studio web app.
Opening the Operator Menu
With a keyboard connected to the Windows machine running the Vū Media Server software:
- Press F12
- The Operator Menu overlays on the display
To close it, press F12 again or click outside the menu area.
The Operator Menu is local-only — it requires physical access (or remote desktop access) to the Windows machine. It cannot be opened remotely from Vū Studio.
What's in the Operator Menu
System Information
- Current Vū Media Server software version
- Wall ID
- IP address and network status
- Connected users
Diagnostics
- Connection test — verifies MQTT, WebSocket, and Supabase connectivity
- Log viewer — shows recent log output from the Vū Media Server software
- Send logs — packages all diagnostic logs and emails them to support
Display Settings
- Resolution — change the output resolution
- Refresh rate — adjust display refresh rate
- Color calibration — fine-tune color output for the connected display
Network
- MQTT status — shows broker connection state
- WebSocket status — shows PieSocket channel status
- WebRTC status — shows peer connection count and ICE state
System Actions
- Restart — restarts the Vū Media Server software
- Shutdown — powers down the display application cleanly
Show Custom In Remote (Admins)
Admins can control whether custom and admin-only controls appear in the Remote. On the Account page, under Admin Options, toggle Show Custom In Remote. Turn it off to present a simpler operator view with those controls hidden.
When to Use the Operator Menu
Use the Operator Menu when:
- You can't connect remotely and need to diagnose the issue on-site
- You need to collect logs to send to support
- You're doing initial setup and need to verify connectivity
- You need to change display resolution or calibration settings
- The remote restart from Vū Studio isn't working and you need to restart manually
