Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Vū Studio?

Vū Studio is a cloud-based control platform for virtual production, digital signage, and immersive LED experiences. It lets you control content on one or more displays from any browser — phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop.

Do I need to install anything to use Vū Studio?

The controlling device (your phone, laptop, etc.) needs nothing installed — just a modern browser at one.vu.studio. The Windows machine connected to your display needs the Vū Media Server software installed. See First Time Setup →.

What browsers does Vū Studio support?

Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari are all supported. Chrome is recommended for the best WebRTC camera streaming performance.

Can I control multiple displays at once?

Yes. You can manage multiple players (displays) from a single Vū Studio account. Use Player Groups to control multiple displays simultaneously, or use the Cast to All feature to send content to every connected display at once.

Do I need to install Vū Media Server updates when prompted?

When a new Vū Media Server version is available, you'll be prompted to update. Most updates are not time-critical — if you're in the middle of a live event, it's fine to postpone and install it later. We recommend updating between sessions so you stay current with the latest fixes and features.

How do I get SceneForge?

SceneForge is a separate Vū application. To get started, see SceneForge → Getting Started. For purchasing or licensing questions, email support@vustudio.com.

Accounts & Login

I can't log in or finish registration at one.vu.studio.

First, confirm you're using the email address you registered with and a supported browser, and reset your password if needed. New Vū Media Server machines also need to be registered to your account during setup — see Create an Account → and First Time Setup →. If you still can't get in, contact support@vustudio.com.

Media & Library

What file formats are supported?

Images: PNG, JPEG, WEBP, TIFF, HDR, SVG, OpenEXR, JPEG-XL, HEIF, ARW. Videos: MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, MXF, MPEG-2, and more — with H.264, H.265/HEVC, ProRes, and VP8 codecs up to 200 Mbps. See the full Supported Formats → list.

How long does it take for uploaded media to be ready?

Usually 5–60 seconds depending on file size. The Media Processor converts your file, generates thumbnails, and creates AI embeddings for search. You'll see a progress indicator in the library.

What's the storage limit?

Storage depends on your subscription plan. Check your current usage in Profile → Resources. Team plans share storage across all team members.

I upgraded to a Team plan but my storage didn't increase — why?

When you upgrade to a Team plan, you need to switch your active profile to the Team profile to use the team's resources. Find the profile selector in the top-right or bottom-left of the app. See Team Plan troubleshooting →.

Can I share media with other users?

Yes. You can share folders with other Vū Studio users and set their access as View or Edit. See Sharing Folders →.

What's the difference between Regular and High quality video uploads?

When you upload a video you can choose Regular or High quality. Regular keeps files smaller for faster uploads and smooth playback, which is ideal for most content. High preserves more detail from the source video at the cost of larger files and longer processing. Choose High when fine detail matters and Regular for everyday content. See Uploading Media →.

Why does my media take a moment to play the first time?

The first time a particular file plays on a Vū Media Server, it's downloaded from cloud storage and cached locally — for large files this can take a moment. After that, the file plays back much faster from the local cache. To avoid delays during a live event, play your content once ahead of time so it's already cached. See Platform Architecture → Media Flow.

What are AI tokens?

AI tokens are the usage credits consumed by Vū Studio's AI features, such as AI image generation and the AI assistant. You can view your current token balance and plan on the Account page.

Can I import media from Google Drive, OneDrive, or Frame.io?

Yes. Vū Studio connects to several external services — Frame.io, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive — so you can browse those folders and play supported videos and images directly from your Library. Connect and manage them from the Integrations section of your Account page. See Integrations →.

I don't see my assets / my library isn't updating.

If recently added assets aren't showing, refresh the page — leaving Vū Studio open in a browser tab for a long time can cause the library to fall out of sync. If assets are still missing after refreshing, confirm you're in the correct profile/team and folder. See Library →.

Connectivity & Network

How do I set up my network for Vū?

See Connectivity and Network Setup →. That page covers internet speed requirements, wired vs. Wi-Fi guidance, the pre-arrival network compatibility test we recommend before any on-site install, what happens if the internet drops, and corporate / VPN considerations.

For the deep technical reference (full port and domain list), see Firewall & Ports →.

If your system shows as offline or commands aren't reaching the display, jump to the Connection Troubleshooting guide →.

My screen shows "No Internet" or my system appears offline.

This means the Vū Media Server has lost its connection to Vū Cloud Services. Check the network cable and router, confirm the machine has internet access, and verify your firewall allows the required ports and domains. See Connection Troubleshooting → and Firewall & Ports →.

My camera or lighting hardware isn't being detected.

Cameras and the lighting transmitter we supply (such as the Enttec box) must be on the same network segment and IP range as the Vū Media Server in order to communicate with it. If there's no spare network port on site, you can connect the Enttec's Ethernet directly to the Vū Media Server computer, then in the Vū Media Server software press F12 to open the Operator Menu and, under Operator Options → Network Adapter, select the IP address of the network that should carry the lighting commands. See Lighting Control Setup →.

Displays & Playback

My display is black or appears frozen — what should I do?

The most common cause is the Vū Media Server losing its internet connection, so first confirm the machine is powered on and online. Then refresh the player from Vū Studio, and restart the Vū Media Server if the display still doesn't recover. If the problem continues, send logs (Settings → Send Logs) and contact support. See Media Server Troubleshooting →.

My PowerPoint looks scaled wrong or the navigation buttons misbehave.

Vū Studio plays PowerPoint (PPTX) files natively as Experiences with slide-advance controls. If a presentation appears scaled incorrectly or the Back/Next buttons behave unexpectedly, re-upload the file and confirm it matches your display's aspect ratio. See PowerPoint Presentations →.

How do I sleep or wake my displays?

You can sleep or wake a single display from the main toolbar, or sleep and wake every display at once using the Sleep All / Wake All controls in the Display Dashboard. Lights attached to a display sleep and wake along with it. See Displays Overview →.

My content looks stretched or split across panels.

This usually points to a pixel mapping issue. Pixel mapping tells Vū Studio the exact layout and resolution of your LED wall so content renders correctly across panels. If your image looks stretched, misaligned, or split, review your pixel map. See Pixel Mapping →.

Lighting

What kinds of lights can I use with Vū Studio?

Vū Studio controls lighting over your network using the Art-Net protocol, so any Art-Net-compatible fixture can be used. When you buy a system from Vū, it includes a hardware device that converts Art-Net to the right signal for your fixtures — DMX (wired) or CRMX (wireless). See Lighting Controls →.

Can I connect a light directly to the Vū Media Server with a USB-C DMX cable?

No. Vū Studio sends lighting commands over the network as Art-Net, which the included transmitter converts to DMX or CRMX for your fixtures — it doesn't read a DMX signal plugged directly into the Media Server. Connect your fixtures through the supplied DMX/CRMX hardware instead. See Lighting Control Setup →.

My lights stopped responding — how do I fix it?

First reload Vū Studio and confirm the fixtures are still listed in the Lighting tab with the correct Universe and channels, then power-cycle the lighting hardware if needed. If you use a Sidus One transmitter, make sure it's on its own power supply and not plugged into the Vū Media Server's USB port — powering it from the PC can cause the lights to drop after a shutdown or restart. See Lighting Control Setup →.

Two of my lights interfere with each other or behave unpredictably.

This is almost always a DMX channel conflict. Each HSI 8-bit fixture uses five channels, so every light needs its own block with at least five channels between base addresses (for example, Light A at channel 1 and Light B at channel 10). Re-check the DMX address on each physical fixture and the matching channels in Vū Studio. See Lighting Control Setup →.

My lights won't pair over CRMX.

Press the round CRMX button on the Sidus One or Godox transmitter, then quickly on the fixture open the menu → CRMX Settings → On; it should show "Pairing" then "Success." If the light was previously paired to another system, unpair it, turn CRMX off and back on, then press the transmitter button again. See Lighting Control Setup →.

How do I dim or black out all my lights at once?

Use the Master control at the top of the Lighting tab — it scales every fixture's intensity together. Pulling Master to 0% blacks everything out; raising it restores each light to its individual setting. See Lighting Controls →.

How do I group or reorder my lights?

Create a group with + New Group at the bottom of the Lighting tab and assign fixtures to it; changes to a group affect every light inside it at once. You can also drag and drop to reorder lights and groups in the remote. See Light Groups →.

The Lighting tab is empty — where are my lights?

An empty Lighting tab means no fixtures have been set up yet for that system. Click + New Light at the bottom of the tab to register a fixture (its Art-Net address, profile, and channels), or follow the full Lighting Control Setup → guide.

Access Control

What's the difference between Demo Mode and Session Mode?

Demo Mode lets anyone with the system ID connect without approval. Session Mode requires an administrator to approve each connection. See Demo & Session Mode →.

Can I limit who can control the display during a live event?

Yes — use Session Mode. Users must be approved before they can send commands, and you can revoke or kick users at any time from the Sessions panel.

Hardware

What are the minimum specs for the Windows media server?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 or Intel Core i7+. RAM: 16 GB+. GPU: AMD Radeon 780M or NVIDIA GTX 1050+. Storage: 1 TB+. Internet: 100 Mbps wired minimum. See full System Requirements →.

Can I use my own Windows PC instead of a Vū-provided machine?

Yes. As long as it meets the system requirements, you can install the Vū Media Server software on any compatible Windo
