Setting Up Your Vū Media Server

This guide walks you through setting up a Vū Media Server from scratch. If Vū installed your system, the software is already installed — skip to Powering On for the First Time.

Step 1: Connect Your Hardware

  1. Connect the Windows PC to your display (LED wall, TV, or monitor) via the appropriate cable
  2. Connect the Windows PC to your network using a wired Ethernet connection — Wi-Fi is not recommended for the media server
  3. Power on the PC and display

Step 2: Install Vū Media Server Software (if needed)

If you're using your own Windows machine, download and install the latest Vū Media Server software from:

one.vu.studio/vu-one-os/releases

Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. All required components are included in the installer and will start automatically.

Already installed?

If Vū shipped you a pre-configured media server, the Vū Media Server software is already installed and will start automatically on boot. You don't need to do anything here.

Step 3: Power On for the First Time

On initial startup you'll see a loading screen as the system initializes:

Once startup completes, a QR code will appear on your display along with a system ID:

This QR code is your shortcut to complete registration.

Step 4: Create Your Account

Option A — Scan the QR code (fastest)

  1. Open the camera app on your phone
  2. Scan the QR code on the display
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to create your Vū account or log in if you already have one

Option B — Browser

  1. On any device, navigate to one.vu.studio
  2. Create an account or log in
  3. Enter the system ID shown below the QR code to connect to your display

Step 5: Connect and Verify

Once logged in and connected, you should see:

  • The connection indicator in the top bar of Vū Studio turns green
  • Your account name appears at the bottom right of the display
  • The Splash Screen appears on your display, showing the date, time, and software version

🎉 Your system is ready to use.

What's Running on the Windows Machine

After setup, the following processes run on the Windows machine:

ProcessWhat it does
Vū Media Server softwareThe application driving your display, managing playback and lighting
Vū WatchdogHealth monitor (if installed)

These start automatically on boot. You don't need to manage them manually during normal operation.
