The Library
The Asset Library is the central hub for all your media in Vū Studio. Click Asset Library in the top navigation to open it. Everything you play on your displays lives here — your own uploaded files, curated asset libraries from Vū, and content from any connected cloud services.
Library Sections
The left sidebar in the Library shell groups your content into two main areas:
Team Library
Contains your uploads and shared folders. Standard entries:
- Uploads — all files you (or your team) have uploaded
- Favorites — assets you've starred for quick access (toggle the favorite icon on any asset)
- Folders — your team's named folders (e.g. project, client, or event folders)
Team content is shared with everyone on the team unless permissions are scoped at the folder level. See Sharing Folders → for permission details.
Vū Library
Curated asset libraries from Vū — background environments, abstract loops, branded content, and more. Some are included with your plan; others may require an additional subscription.
Connected Integrations
If you've connected a cloud service (Frame.io, Google Drive, OneDrive, Shutterstock), those assets become browsable from inside the Library. Connect services from the Account page (top-right profile menu → Account → Integrations). See Integrations →.
Playing Content
- Make sure you're connected to a player (the short-ID indicator in the top bar should be active)
- Click any asset thumbnail to select it
- Click Play or Cast to send it to the connected display
Adding Media
Click the Add Media (➕) button in the toolbar above the library grid:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| File | Upload images, videos, or other supported files from your device |
| Web | Add a web URL as a playable source |
| NDI | Add a live NDI video feed |
| Text | Create a text overlay layer |
| App | Add an application as a playable item |
| Animation | Add a generated or imported animation |
The dialog also lets you choose between Standard Quality and High Quality processing for uploads. Files can be dropped directly onto the dialog (Drop files here or browse files). Uploads require the browser to remain open until they finish; processing on Vū's servers continues without the browser open.
See Uploading Media → for supported formats and processing details.
Searching and Filtering
There are two ways to find assets:
- Search bar — type any part of a file or folder name at the top of the library grid. Results update in real time across the current folder or library section, and include folders that match your search alongside individual files.
- Sort — use the Sort dropdown in the toolbar to order assets by Name (A–Z or Z–A) or by Newest/Oldest.
Folder Actions
The ... Menu (Folder Toolbar)
Every folder view has a ... button in the top-right corner of the content area. This menu acts on the folder you are currently viewing and contains:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Create Folder | Create a new subfolder inside the current folder |
| Present Mode | Launch the current folder's contents in a continuous playback slideshow on the connected display |
| Rename | Rename the current folder |
| Sharing | Configure sharing settings — control who on your team can view or edit this folder |
| Cache | Push the folder's contents to the connected Vū Media Player for faster local playback |
| Move | Move the entire folder to a different location in your library |
| Copy | Duplicate the folder and its contents to another location |
| Delete | Permanently delete the folder and all its contents |
| Select Thumbnail | Choose a custom cover image for the folder tile |
| Unshare with Team | Remove the folder from team sharing, making it visible only to you |
Right-Clicking a Folder Tile
Right-clicking a folder tile in the grid opens a context menu that acts on that specific folder. It contains a subset of the above options, plus:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Select all | Select all items (folders and assets) visible in the current view |
| Rename | Rename the selected folder |
| Sharing | Configure sharing settings for the selected folder |
| Cache | Cache the selected folder's contents to the connected player |
| Move | Move the selected folder to another location |
| Copy | Copy the selected folder to another location |
| Delete | Delete the selected folder |
| Select Thumbnail | Choose a custom cover image for the selected folder |
The ... toolbar button manages the folder you're inside (the current view). Right-clicking a folder tile manages that specific folder from its parent view.
Asset Actions
Quick Actions (Toolbar Icons)
When one or more assets are selected, a row of quick-action icons appears in the toolbar:
| Icon | Action |
|---|---|
| Copy | Duplicate the selected asset(s) in place |
| Add to folder | Copy the selected asset(s) into a folder |
| Rename | Rename the selected asset |
| Download | Download the original file to your device |
| Delete | Permanently delete the selected asset(s) |
Right-Clicking an Asset
Right-click any asset (or select one or more and right-click) to open the full context menu:
| Option | Who can use it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Select all | All users | Selects every asset in the current view |
| Toggle Favorite | All users | Adds or removes the asset from your Favorites folder |
| Create Experience | All users | Creates a new Experience using this asset as the source |
| Duplicate | All users | Makes a copy of the asset in the current folder |
| Copy to | All users | Copies the asset to a folder you select |
| Move to | All users | Moves the asset to a folder you select |
| Edit With vu.ai | All users | Opens the asset in the vu.ai editing environment |
| Select Thumbnail | All users | Choose a custom thumbnail image for the asset |
| Set as Splash | Admins only | Sets this asset as the splash screen background on the connected Vū Media Player |
| Set as Screensaver | Admins only | Sets this asset as the screen saver on the connected Vū Media Player |
Set as Splash and Set as Screensaver are only available to users who are an Admin of the currently connected media server. These options will appear greyed out if you do not have admin access to the connected player.
The screen saver inactivity timeout duration is configured separately in Settings → Media Server Settings → Screen Saver → Timeout Duration. See Settings → for details.
Setting the Splash Screen Background
The splash screen is what displays on your LED wall when no content is actively playing. To set a custom background image or video:
- Find the asset you want to use in the library
- Right-click the asset
- Choose Set as Splash
The change takes effect on the connected player immediately. To customize other splash screen elements (welcome message, QR code visibility, logo, etc.) go to Settings → Media Server Settings. See Settings →.
Setting the Screen Saver
The screen saver plays on the connected wall after a period of inactivity. To set the screen saver content:
- Find the asset you want to use in the library
- Right-click the asset
- Choose Set as Screensaver
To configure how long the player waits before activating the screen saver, go to Settings → Media Server Settings → Screen Saver → Timeout Duration. See Settings →.
Favorites
Click the heart icon on any asset to toggle it as a favorite. All favorited assets are accessible from Favorites in the left sidebar for quick access without browsing folders.
Organizing with Folders
Assets can be organized into folders for easier browsing. Right-click an asset and choose Copy to or Move to to place it in a folder. To create a new folder, use the ... menu → Create Folder, or right-click in empty space within a folder.
See Organizing Folders → for full details on creating, renaming, and sharing folders.
