Uploading Media

Your Vū Studio library is where all your content lives. You can upload your own media, pull from integrated cloud storage, or browse the built-in Vū asset libraries.

How to Upload

There are two ways to get files into your library: the Add Media button, and dragging files straight onto a folder.

Using the Add Media button

  1. Navigate to the Asset Library at one.vu.studio/library — click the Vū Studio icon to go Home, then click Asset Library
  2. Click the Add Media button (➕ icon)
  3. Select what you want to add:
OptionWhat it creates
Upload filesUpload images or videos from your device
Web linkAdd a URL that plays in the display
NDI sourceAdd a live NDI video source
Text layerCreate a text overlay
Vū ExperienceCreate a structured experience with multiple assets
  1. Your uploaded files appear as tiles in your library once processing completes

Dragging files onto a folder

You can also drag files from your computer straight into the library — and you can drop them on any folder you can see on screen, not just one particular drop target:

  • Onto a folder tile or row — the files upload into that folder, whether it is a folder inside the one you are viewing or one listed on the library home page. The folder highlights as you drag over it, so you can see where the files will land before you let go.
  • Onto the empty space of the folder you are viewing — the files upload into the folder that is currently open.

A toast confirms the drop (for example, "Uploading 3 files…"), which matters when you drop onto a folder you are not currently inside. From there the files go through the same processing as any other upload and appear as tiles when it finishes.

A few things to know:

  • You need edit rights. You can drop into folders you own or can edit. Dropping into a folder you only have view access to is refused with "You don't have permission to upload to this folder."
  • Only supported media is accepted. Anything whose format is not in Supported File Formats is ignored, with the message "Only supported media files can be uploaded." Drop the unsupported file on its own and nothing uploads; drop it alongside supported files and only the supported ones are taken.
  • Folders are not uploaded. Dragging a folder from your computer does not upload its contents — open it and drag the files themselves.
  • Dragging assets around inside Vū Studio is unaffected. Moving an existing asset between folders still works the way it always has; only files coming from your computer trigger an upload.

What Happens When You Upload

When you upload a file, it goes through the Media Processor — a backend service that:

  1. Validates the file type and codec
  2. Converts the file to an optimized format (MP4 for video, PNG for images)
  3. Generates three thumbnail sizes (small, medium, large) in WebP format
  4. Extracts EXIF/metadata tags for searchability
  5. Generates an AI embedding for visual similarity search
  6. Stores everything in Cloudflare R2 object storage
  7. Records the asset metadata in the database

This process usually takes 5–60 seconds depending on file size. You'll see a progress indicator in the library.

Audio is stored exactly as you upload it — there is no conversion step, so the file plays back as the file you provided. The accepted list is deliberately narrow so that anything you upload plays on every kind of Vū Studio player.

Storage Limits

Your available storage depends on your subscription plan. You can check your current usage on the Account page (profile menu → Account). When you upgrade to a Team plan, remember to switch your active profile to the Team profile to access the team's shared storage — see the Team Plan troubleshooting guide if your storage didn't increase after upgrading.

Managing Storage by Content Age

You can free up space by removing older content directly from your account.

Personal content: Open Profile → Account and go to the storage section. Choose Delete content older than and pick a date — all of your personal content older than that date is removed.

Team content (admins): Team administrators can configure automatic deletion rules based on content age, applied to both individual and team content. Once a rule is set, content older than the configured age is removed automatically on an ongoing basis, so storage stays within limits without manual cleanup.

caution

Deletion by age permanently removes the affected content. Review the date range before confirming, and use folder sharing or archiving for anything you need to keep.

Organizing Your Media

After uploading, you can organize content into folders. See Organizing Folders → and Sharing Folders → for details on collaboration and access control.
