Remotely Restarting the Media Server
You can restart the Vū Media Server software remotely from Vū Studio without needing physical access to the Windows machine. This is useful when the server is unresponsive, or after a software update.
Restarting from Vū Studio
- Open Vū Studio and connect to the player
- Click Settings (gear icon)
- Click Restart Media Server
- Confirm when prompted
The Vū Media Server software on the Windows machine shuts down and restarts. This takes about 10–15 seconds. Once restarted, the player will show the splash screen and reconnect automatically.
What Gets Restarted
Restart Media Server performs a full restart of the Vū Media Server software and all of its internal components. Everything comes back up together so the system reconnects correctly.
Restart vs Full Application Restart
The Settings page offers two options:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Restart Media Server | Restarts the Vū Media Server software |
| Restart Application | Full restart — same as above plus any OS-level services |
Use Restart Media Server for most situations. Use Restart Application if a full restart is needed after a system update or persistent issue.
If Remote Restart Doesn't Work
If the remote restart button doesn't respond:
- On the Windows machine, press the Start button, right-click the Vū Studio icon in the taskbar, and select Close Window
- Wait 10 seconds, then relaunch by clicking the Vū Studio icon on the desktop
- Refresh your browser tab to reconnect
