Aputure Fixture DMX Profiles

When you add a light in Vū Studio and type the Intensity channel, Vū auto-fills the rest in this order: Hue, Saturation, Temperature, Strobe.

That's perfect for the Infinibar and the Nova P600c. The Storm 400x orders its channels differently, and the Nova P300c has fewer channels. If you leave the auto-fill alone on those lights, the values land on the wrong channels and you'll see things like:

  • Lights going green when you move Saturation or turn on pixel mapping
  • The Temperature slider changing the color instead of warm/cool
  • The Strobe slider changing saturation

Nothing is broken in Vū. It's a quick settings fix: check the profile on the light, then match the channels in Vū.

How each light lays out its channels

"1st" is the light's DMX Address, "2nd" is the next channel up, and so on.

Infinibar — Profile 5 (HSI 8-bit), 5 channels

  • 1st: Intensity
  • 2nd: Hue
  • 3rd: Saturation
  • 4th: Temperature
  • 5th: Strobe

Nova P600c — Profile 5 (HSI 8-bit), 5 channels (same as the Infinibar)

  • 1st: Intensity
  • 2nd: Hue
  • 3rd: Saturation
  • 4th: Temperature
  • 5th: Strobe

Nova P300c — Profile 5 (HSI 8-bit), 3 channels (no Temperature or Strobe)

  • 1st: Intensity
  • 2nd: Hue
  • 3rd: Saturation

Storm 400x — Profile 21 (Limited HSIC+ 8-bit), 5 channels (no Strobe)

  • 1st: Intensity
  • 2nd: Temperature
  • 3rd: Green tint
  • 4th: Hue
  • 5th: Saturation

Storm 400x — Profile 23 (Limited HSIC+ Control 8-bit), 8 channels

  • 1st: Intensity
  • 2nd: Temperature
  • 3rd: Green tint
  • 4th: Hue
  • 5th: Saturation
  • 6th: Strobe
  • 7th: Control
  • 8th: Fan

Vū doesn't use Green tint, Control or Fan, so those just get skipped.

Don't use these profiles with Vū
  • Nova Profile 3 (CCT & HSI) — it has a crossfade channel Vū can't map yet.
  • Any 16-bit profile — Vū sends 8-bit values.
Nova P300c has no Temperature or Strobe in HSI mode

On a P300c, Intensity, Hue and Saturation work. The Temperature and Strobe sliders won't do anything for that light. If the light's menu shows its HSI profile using 5 channels (newer firmware), set it up like a P600c instead.

Step 1 — Check the light itself

  1. Open the menu → DMX Settings → DMX Profile:
    • Infinibar / Nova: 5 (HSI 8-bit)
    • Storm 400x: 21 (Limited HSIC+ 8-bit). Use 23 instead if you want strobe.
  2. Note the DMX Address. That's the light's 1st channel.
  3. Set DMX Loss Behavior to Hold Last Setting.
  4. On a Nova, check whether it's a P600c or a P300c (it's on the label).

Step 2 — Set it up in Vū Studio

  1. Lighting tab → click the ⚙️ on the light (or + New Light).
  2. Keep the Light Profile on HSI, and set Universe to match your other lights.
  3. Type the Intensity channel (the DMX Address) and click away. Vū fills in the rest.
  4. Fix the channels to match the light using the examples below. Setting a channel to 0 just tells Vū not to use that input.
  5. On Storms and Novas, set the Temperature Slider Range to 0 – 255. (The default starts at 11, which only matters for the Infinibar — on that light 0–10 means "6500K default".)
  6. Click Save.

Examples

Nova P600c at DMX address 1 (the auto-fill already gets this right)

  • Intensity: 1
  • Hue: 2
  • Saturation: 3
  • Temperature: 4
  • Strobe: 5

Nova P300c at DMX address 1

  • Intensity: 1
  • Hue: 2
  • Saturation: 3
  • Temperature: 0
  • Strobe: 0

Storm 400x on Profile 21 at DMX address 40 (42 is the green tint channel, so it gets skipped)

  • Intensity: 40
  • Temperature: 41
  • Hue: 43
  • Saturation: 44
  • Strobe: 0

Storm 400x on Profile 23 at DMX address 40

  • Intensity: 40
  • Temperature: 41
  • Hue: 43
  • Saturation: 44
  • Strobe: 45

If your light is on a different DMX address, shift everything by the same amount. For example, a Storm at DMX address 50 on Profile 21 would be Intensity 50, Temperature 51, Hue 53 and Saturation 54.

Step 3 — Spacing

Make sure each light has enough channels before the next one starts:

  • 5 for most lights (Infinibar, Nova P600c, Storm on Profile 21)
  • 3 for a Nova P300c
  • 8 for a Storm on Profile 23

The safe bet is to leave 10 channels between each light's DMX address — for example 1, 10, 20, 30 or 40, 50, 60, 70. If two lights overlap, both will act strangely.

Step 4 — Quick test

Turn pixel mapping off first, then for each light:

  • Intensity should dim only that light.
  • With Saturation at 0, Temperature should go warm to cool.
  • With Saturation up, Hue should sweep through the colors.
  • Turn pixel mapping back on. There should be no green cast.
Exact color temperature

In HSI mode, Temperature sets the white point and any Saturation above 0 mixes in color from Hue. For an exact color temp, drop Saturation to 0 first, then set Temperature.
